From Theory to Practice: Inga Alley Cropping Takes Root in Melong!
Impact Circle for Nature (ICFN), with support from Rainforest Saver and in collaboration with MUCODEF, conducted a two-day Community Sensitization and Training Workshop on Inga Alley Cropping in Mbondong, Melong, on 3 and 4 August 2026.
The training was designed to combine knowledge with practical application, ensuring that participants did not only learn about Inga Alley Cropping but also gained hands-on experience in establishing the system.
Day One: Community Sensitization and Theory
The first day brought together 19 community members and farmers for an interactive training session facilitated by Mr. Wilson Atanga from Buea.
Participants were introduced to the Inga Alley Cropping System and learned about its potential to restore soil fertility, improve crop yields, reduce slash-and-burn farming, and protect forests.
The training covered key topics including the importance of Inga trees, nursery establishment, planting arrangements, pruning, crop integration, and the challenges associated with slash-and-burn agriculture.
Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss how Inga Alley Cropping could be adapted to their own farming activities.
Day Two: From Theory to Practice
On the second day, participants moved from the classroom to the project farm, where they received practical training and established an Inga nursery.
This practical session allowed participants to apply the knowledge gained on the first day while taking the first concrete step towards implementing Inga Alley Cropping in the community.
The establishment of the nursery represents an important milestone for the project. The seedlings will provide the foundation for future Inga Alley Cropping demonstration plots and farmer activities.
The strong participation and willingness of community members to contribute land and take part in the practical activities demonstrate growing local ownership of the initiative.
Through this project, ICFN aims to promote regenerative agriculture that restores degraded soils, improves food security, strengthens rural livelihoods, and contributes to forest conservation and climate resilience.

🌿 Impact Circle for Nature Completes 3-Day Inga Alley Cropping Training
Impact Circle for Nature (IC4N), formerly known as Impact Circle Cameroon, proudly participated in a three-day training workshop on the Inga Alley Cropping System, held from 15-17 January 2026 at the Bamenda Handicrafts Centre, Cameroon.
The workshop, organized by Rainforest Saver in partnership with MUCODEF, brought together community-based organizations from across the country to strengthen local capacity for sustainable and regenerative farming.
During the training, our team gained valuable knowledge on how the Inga Alley Cropping System can help communities:
🌱 Restore degraded soils
🌳 Plant trees alongside crops to improve productivity
🍫 Integrate sustainable methods into cocoa farms
🐄 Provide fodder for livestock
🌍 Promote climate-smart agriculture and forest conservation
This training marks an important step forward for IC4N as we prepare to launch pilot Inga farming projects in Babubock Village and Bangem Town. These initiatives will support local farmers, improve food security, and protect the natural environment.
